Meet the Board Chairman Martijn Laguna As Australia offers such an easy and first class environment to feel at home at, my view for an organisation like Dutchlink is that, one of the main purposes is to make as much information as possible available about everything Dutch, so people can pick and choose based on their preferences. The other main objective is to actively facilitate a business network environment, which has been lacking for the Sydney area in the last couple of years. I hope that you will join us, the Board of Dutchlink, in helping to realise these objectives. I would be delighted to hear from you if you have any suggestions or, even better, to meet you at the various events and occasions throughout the year. Director Anthony Latimer Before joining Corrs, Anthonys legal practice was principally with Andersen Legal (part of Andersen Worldwide), in Sydney, where he was a partner for 4 years and before that with the national law firm of Ebsworth & Ebsworth, also in Sydney, where he was a partner for 10 years. Anthony's practice has largely involved acting for national and international clients throughout Australia and in the South East Asian and Western Pacific regions. Anthony advises a number of clients in various industries including transport and logistics, manufacturing, technology, telecommunications and financial markets. His role has involved advising clients on various aspects of their businesses and projects, including advising on merger laws, corporate law, foreign ownership, shareholder arrangements, shareholding issues including buy-backs and reductions, and corporate restructures. This role has included managing transactions for clients, in terms of the provision of legal services and other professional services, due to the size and complexity of such transactions. Director Akky van Ogtrop Akky van Ogtrop (born in The Netherlands), graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, majoring in printmaking, and has a Masters Degree Fine Arts, Sydney University, with the Thesis on Dada. As a director and manager of major arts events Akky has proven experience as an arts administrator and creative manager with extensive contacts and national and international project experience. She is involved in public programs and arts education and in her current position as presenter and facilitator with people of all backgrounds and cultures works on projects such as the ARTIculate Campaign. She has a proven record of developing successful funding grants and sponsorship, bringing together arts and business, which is one of the tasks she will be engaged in as a Dutchlink Board Member. Apart from her expertise as a public program, event manager, art historian and curator, Akky also has a passionate interest in multi cultural issues especially in the preservation, promotion and dissemination of Dutch culture and heritage in Australia. She previously held positions as: Assistant Director of Galerie d'Eendt in Amsterdam, organising exhibitions of paintings, prints and sculptures by Dutch and international artists; after moving to Australia she became Manager of Stadia Graphics Gallery in Sydney, one of the first and foremost galleries in Australia to specialise on works on paper. From 1999 2003 she worked as the Marketing and Public Programs Manager for the Biennale of Sydney. In 1988 she established Akky van Ogtrop Fine Arts, specialising in Works on Paper by 19th and 20th Century Masters, as well as contemporary Australian and international artists; and in 1989 organised the first art fair in Sydney, the Sydney Art on Paper Fair and still organises this biennial event. Akky is presently serving on various boards, including: Immediate past President of the Dutch Australian Cultural Centre; Vice President of the Walter Burley Griffin Society Inc; Vice President of the Print Council of Australia, member of the advisory committee of the Manly Art Gallery and Museum, Foundation Member of the Art Gallery of NSW, Chair Australia on the Map NSW, and Board member Dutchlink. Executive Manager Nadia van Houwelingen
End of November 2009, I moved to Sydney with my partner. An exciting move literally to the other side of the world! Our experience sofar is living in a great country with a lovely climate, relaxed culture, sports attitude, beautiful beaches, delicious food and friendly people. We are enjoying every moment of it. In the Netherlands, I worked in Real Estate as an Asset Developer first for NS Real Estate and later for TCN. In the process of real estate development, I had the responsibility from initiation phase, through acquisition, design, construct, and finally sale of the property. It’s a real energy booster to develop something from ‘nothing’, just an idea, to ‘something’ you can touch and live, work, educate, sport, play or shop in. Now in Sydney I’m broadening my view. I started a course in Interior Design, something I always loved to do and dreamt about since I was a kid. Besides, I like to be actively involved in the Dutch community by organising events and meeting the ‘Dutchies’, so therefore I applied for a job at Dutchlink. Please feel free to call or email me with any questions and comments on anything Dutch. See you at the next event!
